Make the first mistake: Choose a sunny day for cleaning your windows.

Forte states, “Do this job under the blazing sunlight and the cleaner will dry on the hot windows before it can be washed off, leaving streaks that are difficult to remove.” Start on the shaded side of your house if the weather isn’t cooperating.

Mistake #2: Applying cleaner to dirt and dust.

You should first clean the window frame using a brush. By doing this, dirt won’t get mixed with cleaners into a muddy mess. If you notice that your window screen is particularly grimy, remove it and wash it with hot, soapy water. Use a soft brush to scrub it. Rinse and dry it before putting it back.

Forte suggests that you dust shades and blinds quickly with a microfiber brush.

LAB TIP To prevent wrinkles, you can also refresh your curtains by hanging them up in the dryer for 15 mins on an “air-only”.

Make #3: Don’t buy window cleaner.

Spray as soon as possible, even if your windows are looking particularly grimy. Forte states that you need lots of cleaner to dissolve the dirt and suspend it so that it can be completely wiped off. If you skimp, then streaks will be visible.

Mix the ingredients together and put them in a spray can. For safety, you can write the ingredients on the outside if you have pets or children.

You can use distilled water to clean your glasses if you live in an area that has hard water. BTW, vinegar can also be used to remove stubborn stains. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, vinegar’s acidity is what allows hard water minerals to be removed.

Make #4: Use an old cotton rag for drying your windows.

While some people like to dry panes with newspaper or other media, you can use reusable microfiber cloths. Forte states that they are super absorbent and washable, and will leave your glass shining and streak-free.

You can use paper towels if you prefer. Weak towels can tear and leave behind lint. Our most recent test showed that Bounty Regular performed the best when it was wet.

5th Mistake: Use a squeegee to clean your skin.

Forte states that professional window cleaners swear by them but they must be taught how to properly use them. You squeegee the floor and then you pour it on. The floor.

She avoids using squeegees because of the risk of a mess and drips. However, they are more useful for larger picture windows.

Mistake #6 – Cleaning all of your windows in one go.

Forte suggests that you only clean your windows once to twice per year. However, it is easier to do the job in smaller rooms. You should clean one side of each window vertically and one horizontally. You’ll be able to tell if streaks are on the outside or inside if they form.
